Photos of the villages of Iruya and San Isidro (Argentina)
Iruya is a beautiful but very remove village in Northern Argentina. The dirt road that reaches the village is about 50Km long. It fords several rivers and goes over a 4,000 meter pass. Iruya is reachable daily by local bus from Humahuaca (unless rain makes the road impassable).
It can also be reached with a regular car at the dry season only, since there is several rivers to ford. As soon as it rains in the region, the rivers will become impassable unless you have 4x4 (4WD).
The village of San Isidro can only be reached by foot or by horse (about 8Km from Iruya). When the river is low and the weather is good, it is a very nice and easy day hike with beautiful landscapes.
