Deforestation in the work, in Sulawesi Island, Indonesia
A low-land jungle parcel was burned. It will then be drained and used for an oil palm plantation. You can see the stumps of the burnt trees in the water.
Sadly, in the North of Sulawesi, large parcels of flat coastal land are getting deforested (by burning down the jungle), and turned into oil palm plantations.
Oil palm monoculture is very bad for bio-diversity, both by destroying the jungle vegetation diversity, and by causing loss of habitat for many animal species.
