Huntsman Spider - Sparassidae - Cave Spider (Borneo)

This spider once lost and regenerated all its left legs. Looks like pale form of Heteropoda tetrica, result of growing up in darkness.

If you can identify the exact species, please post a comment or email me!

Photo taken in Lang Cave, in Gunung Mulu National Park (Borneo)

Scale: about 5 inch diameter (including the legs), i.e. about the actual size on a standard computer monitor.

Photo of another spider of the exact same species.

I found similar spiders in other caves, see here.

Remember: Spiders are our friends: they eat mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects, and they almost never attack or harm people.

They are nice and friendly, they just have a bad reputation because they look spooky with their 8 legs and their 8 eyes :)
