Lembang Tonga Riu Toraja Rock-Tombs burial site in Sulawesi Island, Indonesia.
In front, miniature tongkonan structures with their typical roof.
The miniature tongkonan is a small, decorated replica of a traditional Torajan house, and is often placed near a tomb. It is believed to accompany the soul of the deceased to the afterlife and to provide them with a comfortable dwelling place in the spiritual realm.
Lembang Tonga Riu is an impressive Toraja rock-tomb burial site (cemetery). It is also called Lo'ko Mata Wall.
More than 20 rock tombs are carved in a huge boulder. There is a carved balcony with Tau-tau's (effigies of the deceased looking at the living), and the sculpture of a "pa'tedong" (the sacred water buffalo of the Toraja).
