Seraphim Angel Painting - Aya Sofya (Istanbul)

They look like strange headless angels with blue and brown feathers.

The six-winged figure is though to depict the seraphim, an angel described in the biblical book of Isaiah. This faceless representation was painted over a mosaic of the Seraphim when the church was turned into a mosque. The original mosaic of the angel is believed to be under the painted plaster.
