Terraced fields near Syang village (Nepal)

I noticed that in the middle of each field there is a small shrine made of round rocks painted in white, and a tree branch.

I suppose this is a Tibetan tradition. Not sure if this is related to Buddhism, Hinduism, or some older Animist belief.
