Villagers pulling water from the village only water well - Ajanta (India)
Young girls and women are standing on slippery rocks at the edge of the 60-feet deep water-well, barefoot or wearing flip-flops, risking their lives.
They use buckets attached to long ropes to get drinking water. There is no running water in the village, and this water well is the only source of clean water.
Because of the drought, the water well is almost dry, so a water truck (visible in the photo) comes every day and dumps drinking water in the well.
In my opinion it would be better to provide water directly from the water truck to the villagers, as part of the water that they dump in the water well will infiltrate in the ground and get lost.
